Reading Devices: Scrolling vs. Pagination
I personally prefer pagination for long form reading and scrolling for skimming through text. Pagination is easier to control when holing the device on the sides and it’s easier to keep track of your reading position. It also requires less gestures when reading because we tend to scroll when reading to keep the current line as centered as possible.
I like the way Flipboard handles presenting the different articles. Having one article per page as in this video is shown is too limiting for me. I rather have many headlines or thumbnails and decide which ones I want to open and which ones I don’t. That way I can evaluate 10 articles at once instead of one by one. If a headline looks interesting I expand it to see what it’s about and if I want to read it then I open the article or send it to Instapaper. In my opinion that’s a faster way of discarding all the articles you don’t want to read and sending to Instapaper the ones you’re interested in.
