México en tus Sentidos Inauguración Juegos Panamericanos Guadalajara 2011

(via vivemexico1)

Very emotive video showing Mexico’s singular mixture of nature, culture and people. I find the music very powerful and the images compelling.

I think Mexico is one of the richest countries in the world in non-monetary terms. Before the Spanish traveled to America, Mexico was the nest of countless pre-hispanic civilizations each one with it’s own language, traditions, culture, etc. Each mexican state has its own traditions and particularities, that’s why when they ask me what’s typical mexican food I have no idea what to answer, there are too many dishes that I don’t even know of. Tacos are very common and it’s what is mostly known outside of Mexico but it’s like saying that cheese is the only food France has to offer. (I might add that Chili con Carne is NOT a mexican dish.)

As the video shows, Mexico has a unique combination of nature, culture and amazingly friendly people. The problem is that Mexico has been cursed with corrupt and inept politicians and business people for too long. They’ve been running the country into the ground. That’s why people flee the country or involve themselves with unlawful ventures to make a living and support their loved ones. These things make Mexico a hard place to live in.

Nevertheless these things should not scare people away from visiting and experiencing the richness Mexico has to offer. The best way people from around the world can do to help Mexico move forward it visit it; go to its beaches; its temples; its pyramids; its cities, towns and villages. People in Mexico are hungry to serve you, to prepare delicious food for you, to delight you with their music and dances, to make you laugh and smile, to get you drunk with tequila and beer, to show you a great time. By doing so, they’ll be able to feed their families and continue delighting other visitors with the unique mexican warmth and love.
