my native languages are killing each other.

I can’t even cope with spanish and english. That’s why I mostly speak Spanglish with friends and family. :P

This happens to me with programming languages as well, good think that we have great tools that tell us if we’re not “saying” things correctly.

laureola:

When I talk italian with my mom and have to use the word “meanwhile” i always say “nel intermezzo” that doesn’t exist like this in italian. Actually it’s “intremesu” in my head (which is sardinian) and I just change the pronunciation to italian.

Meanwhile > nel frattempo (ital.) - en attendant (fr.) - inzwischen (dt.)

“Intermezzo” means interlude.

Very similar is a word my sister, my mom and I invented and are using since we are kids.. without noticing that it doesn’t exist. We verrry often say “Mi sta annervando..”, which should mean that something is annoying me. But the word “annervando” does not exist. It’s just the french word “énerver” with the italian pronunciation.

ah.. I love languages.
